Kindness is a must
Kindness is a must...
When local band "The Kindness of Strangers" contacted Chris at C83 productions they were looking for a unique and fresh video. After a couple long sessions of drawing up concepts back and forth. We settled on a fresh "new"look by reverting back in time to the age of three strip Technicolor.
The Process
The process of the production had to be planned very carefully with lots of research into how Technicolor actually worked. Before we shot a frame we were tossing back and forth stills from technicolor productions from the early to late 1950s to find that specific look. The film "The Aviator" released 2004 follows Howard Hughes through his more glorious years in the aviation industry. The film applied a process of digitally applying LUTs (Look up Tables) that could be quickly be applied to dailies in real-time.
Production Design
Michelle Lawless production designer had the task of figuring out a color palette to work within that was 1950s 1960s specific. She chose very complimentary color scheme that the set dressing would compliment the wardrobe. Throughout the music video the design is very specific really building an atmosphere that responds to that time and place.
Birthday party for Eddie lead singer of the band "The Kindness of Strangers." Outside the room 3x 2k tungsten were tented in shooting through tracing paper. A 2 bank mega kino hung over head from a pole cat for the base lighting scheme.
