Workflow solution for new Sci-Fi Pilot
New Sci-Fi pilot slated to shoot in Baltimore area.
Maysun Productions is teaming up with DCM on a new Sci-Fi pilot slated to start principal photography in June. The hour long episodic involves 38 minutes of visual effects provided by Furious Zen studios in Bethesda, Maryland. DCM will be heading the helm throughout the post process Workflow solutions along with editorial and color grading.
When the production company approached us in February with the idea to shoot the entire show on Red One; i thought what not a better time to test the workflow that involved heavy CG/VFX work on a trimmed down pilot budget. Principal photography would take place over the course of 3 weekends 9 days with 2 cameras rolling 5 days. The entire production is in studio, so logistics of media shuffling aren't going to be our demise. But, on such a time sensitive schedule the post workflow was going to have to be perfectly orchestrated between the VFX house and us providing the transcoding to editors.
I can't really write about the specifics of the workflow, but we have decided to go completely tapeless from acquisition to finishing with deliverables on HDcam SR.
